Golf and Peppermint Essential Oil
You may have heard this controversy about Jordan Spieth chewing gum on the golf course during his win at the Open. Spieth’s coach, Cameron McCormick, gave him a pack of peppermint gum prior to practice for the first round of the Open. Like a good student he took it without question. According to the article I read Jordan was chewing somewhat unconsciously, and then he finally thought about it after a couple of holes.
"I was 1 under through two and I thought I better keep it in," he said. "Payne Stewart used to do it and it served him well. I think mint has some sort of effect on nerves, but I was still feeling them a bit out there."
There is truth to what Jordan felt while he was chewing gum. The peppermint essential oil not only helps with oral hygiene, upset stomach, and clear breathing. Peppermint is also very good to help with staying focused.
Peppermint essential oil, I use it almost every day. I have tried using it on the golf course and have had some of my best rounds ever (74, 76, 78, and 74 again). I am down to a 7 handicap and getting lower every time I go out on the course. The peppermint oil and plenty of practice is what I attribute my success on the golf course.
My favorite way to use peppermint is to put one drop of oil on my tongue. First it leaves my breathe fresh and minty. Next it aids digestion. For years I have had really bad acid reflux, I truly believe that peppermint has helped me with my acid reflux. My acid reflux and digestive issues are more manageable. Lastly it helps me stay focused and alert, something I have struggled with that for years.
Other ways of using peppermint essential oils is topically and aromatically both of which I use. When I need to get a project completed I fire up my diffuser and add peppermint and for some extra zing I add a drop or 2 of wild orange. If I really need a pick me up I put 1 drop of peppermint and 1 drop of wild orange in my hands rub them together, take a long deep breathe then rub it on the back of my neck. This combination is amazing, it is like an energy drink on steroids.
So the next time you need a pick me up reach for your peppermint oil. You will be amazed and fall in love with peppermint essential oil.

Gardening and Essential Oils
When we use Essential Oils and Gardening for our bodies, we use them three ways: aromatically, topically, and internally. We can use them in similar ways with our plants, and even with our livestock.
Our oils are extremely pure, and also potent—but are considered safe for internal consumption for both humans and animals. Many clinical tests have been performed on both humans and animals for common daily issues. Essential Oils are even used agriculturally.
It is important to know and trust the sustainability and testing of the oils you use. We have created a new standard that is ethical, fair, and sustainable, but produces the highest quality oils on the market. Try some and empower yourself in the home and garden today!
So the question is, ARE YOU OPEN TO USING ESSENTIAL OILS IN YOUR GARDEN?
AROMATIC: PRACTICAL USES
When using oils in the garden, you’ll find there are many different ways to do so. Using the oils AROMATICALLY in the garden is most effective on airborne pests, and potentially many others as well.
Like humans, plants breathe in oxygen and can soak in the benefits of Essential Oils just by having them in the air around them.
You can improve both the abundance and the taste/nutrition of the plants you grow by incorporating Essential Oils into your gardening. They are simple, safe, and very effective.
Recent studies show that using JASMINE with plants reduced stress noticeably when compared to gardens that did not use Jasmine. You can also use the CALMING BLEND, UPLIFTING BLEND, or LAVENDER.
Here are a few popular ways you can use Essential Oils aromatically in the garden. Try them all!
SPRAYS: Just add a few drops of Essential Oil (as noted throughout this Class) to water in a spray bottle. How much? All you need is two to four drops for every 8 ounces of water. Adding a few drops of natural liquid soap (e.g., castile soap) will help make sure the spray uniformly covers both leaves and insects. DIRECTIONS: Spray directly onto fruits, vegetables, flowers, the undersides of leaves (preferable), etc.
STRINGS: Soak an ordinary string in a mix of water and Essential Oils. To discourage flying insects, hang the string in the garden.
CLOTH STRIPS: Put one drop of Essential Oil on strips of fabric. Hang these throughout the garden, adding more drops as needed.
COTTON BALLS: Add Essential Oil to cotton balls to deal with burrowing animals or pests. Place the cotton balls on top of nests, burrows, etc.

Pollination is a key element to the successful production of fruits and veggies, and Essential Oils can help us attract those beneficial pollinators that make our garden abundant.
Making a simple spray using Essential Oils and spraying on blossoms can encourage more visitors—which means more fruit!
Geranium, Roman Chamomile, Wild Orange, Basil, Rosemary, Clary Sage, and Lavender can all be used aromatically to attract pollinators, bees especially. Lavender and Fennel attract butterflies to your garden.
EO POLLINATOR PLEASER RECIPE
2 – 4 drops of Essential Oil
8 oz. water
Add to glass spray bottle.
Spray on leaves.
USING OILS TOPICALLY IN THE GARDEN
Essential Oils are great when applied directly to plants, but the key is this: remember to dilute quite heavily.
They can be effective for dealing with strengthening the immune function of plants or as a “companion.” Many are familiar with planting basil and tomatoes side by side; did you know that spraying Basil Essential Oil around and on the tomato plant can improve the health, nutrition, and taste of tomatoes in much the same way?
2 – 4 drops of Basil Essential Oil
8 oz. water
Add to a small glass water spray bottle.
Spray on base of plant.
While most of us wouldn’t go the extreme of calling in a plant doctor for our plants, imagine farmers who are reliant on their harvest for income. They would definitely call a plant doctor!
When we need feedback, we call on our local extensions agent, do soil samples, and try to get expert advice on how to deal with issues from books and online forums.
Incorporating Essential Oils into a regular gardening routine can increase the garden’s abundance, just as it can improve our daily health.
The more proactive we are by using Essential Oils in the garden, the less likely that you’ll need expert help (or, worst case, lose crops).
In most cases, Essential Oils are a very safe and effective option; so, don’t hesitate to try!

Cardiovascular Health and Essential Oils
WHAT IS CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH?
The heart, circulatory system, the blood vessels, and the approximately five liters of blood that the blood vessels transport make up the cardiovascular system.
This system is responsible for pushing blood to the organs, tissues, and cells, and for transporting oxygen, nutrients, hormones, and cellular waste products throughout the body. The oxygen and nutrient-rich blood that bring life and health to all cells, also transport Essential Oils.
CARDIOVASCULAR FUN FACTS
- Did you know that if you stretched everything out, end to end, arteries, veins, and capillaries, the cardiovascular system would stretch 60,000 miles?
- Here is a little math for you. Your heart beats 80 beats per minute, 4,800 beats per hour, 115,200 beats per day and 42,048,000 beats per year! If you take 42,048,000 and multiply by your age, you can calculate how many times you heart has beaten your entire lifetime.
- Did you know that our veins are blue because of light waves? Our blood is always red, not blue, but as light goes through the skin, it illuminates our veins, making them appear blue.
- How big is your heart? Can you make a fist? That's how big your heart is.
- Laughter is good for your heart. Laughter can send 20% more blood flowing through your body.
- Both sides of the heart have different functions. The right side pumps blood to the lungs and the lungs give the blood oxygen that is carried back to the heart where the left side can then take the oxygen and distribute it to the rest of your body.

Question: How many nights a week do you struggle to find sleep?
WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR BODIES WITHOUT ENOUGH SLEEP?
You know, the morning after a restless night is stressful. It feels as though you are walking through a fog and your brain is slow to get moving (that’s because it’s true!). Science has shown that with short-term sleep loss you can experience loss of attention, fail to process information, experience impaired memory function, loss of creativity and cognition (the mental action or process of acquiring knowledge and understanding through thought, experience, and the senses), an increase in impulsivity, and loss of empathy. If that’s just short-term, what happens with long-term sleep deprivation?
Your body starts to seriously struggle with everyday functions. You may experience a suppressed immune system and all that that includes, such as an increased risk of infection. One of the biggest issues you may go through is struggling with metabolic syndrome, a group of conditions—increased blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist, and abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride levels — that occur together, increasing your risk of heart disease, stroke, and type II Diabetes. You are also susceptible to an increased risk of cancer. So, how do we cope? We reach for our highly caffeinated drinks, high carbohydrate and high sugar-type foods?
There must be a better way, and here’s the good news: there is!
One way to take care of your body during a rough sleep cycle is to nourish it well during the day. With beautifully balanced levels of key vitamins, minerals, omegas, and DHA. Fortunately there are supplements, (that contain the balance vitamins, minerals, omegas, and DHA), that you can introduce into your daily routine/lifestyle that will help you achieve a good nights sleep. Supplements containing Essential Oils allow the body to absorb the nutrients more effectively.

The Power of Aroma
The Power of Aroma is one of the most powerful senses of the human body. One of the most well-studied areas of aroma research is the effect of smell on EMOTIONS and MOOD.
For example, there is convincing evidence demonstrating that simply inhaling the AROMA of an ESSENTIAL OIL is effective for calming nervous or anxious feelings in a variety of settings.
The SMELL receptors located on the upper surface of the nasal cavity make direct links with the limbic system of the brain, an area that governs the body’s EMOTIONAL responses.
This close connection between AROMA and EMOTION becomes obvious in our everyday life as certain odors trigger MEMORIES or specific FEELINGS. Some AROMAS directly impact MOOD (for example calming, balancing, or invigorating), while others trigger memories of a specific experience, often one tied to a strong EMOTION.
Intriguing new research has also helped us recognize that the benefits of AROMA extend far beyond just EMOTIONAL regulation.
In addition to influencing the limbic region of the BRAIN, olfactory centers are also intricately linked with the hypothalamus, an area of the BRAIN more familiarly nicknamed the “visceral control center” because it controls physiologic functions throughout the body. The hypothalamus exerts its POWERFUL influence by interacting directly with the pituitary gland, or “master gland,” a small gland located in the BRAIN.
The pituitary gland secretes hormones involved in the regulation of BLOOD PRESSURE, HUNGER and THIRST signals, THYROID function, SLEEP cycles, production of sexual HORMONES, and MEMORY, among other things.
Because of the direct link of the olfactory system to this area of the brain, AROMA is capable of interacting directly with the hypothalamus, influencing neurochemistry throughout the body, and, in turn, potentiating POWERFUL health outcomes.
There are many acceptable ways to use Essential Oils for their AROMATIC properties. One method is to DIFFUSE the oil into the air. Not only does diffusion make the oil accessible to the body, but research indicates that there are also AIR PURIFICATION benefits when diffusing oils.
When diffusing oils, use of cold air or hydrodiffusion is best because burning or heating Essential Oils can ALTER their delicate chemistry. If a diffuser is not available, simply DROPPING Essential Oils into the palm of the hand and then cupping around the nose and breathing deeply is a CONVENIENT METHOD for using Essential Oils at ANY time, in ANY situation.
